A good milkshake hits all the important dessert flavor groups. Smooth and creamy yet with a slight chew, delicate sweetness without overt cloy, filling and yet deceptively light, the delicious descriptions can go on and on.

While the options for milkshakes are near endless due to the range of potential ingredients, there are some unique takes that offer a variety to the tried and true classic. Things like Indian-influenced Lassi drinks or soy-based "health" milkshakes offer a number of new ways to stir up your favorite summertime drink.

We've gathered some of our favorite "different" shakes from the What's Cookin' database. Read on to see which made the top five and be sure to tell us your favorite milkshake flavor combinations in the comments below!

    Lassi

    Frozen Mango Lassi

This tropical take on the dessert uses just yogurt, mango sorbet and a blender. Garnish with a mint leaf and you're dessert is complete!

Also try: Pinapple Lassi, Strawberry Lassi

    Healthy

    Berry Soy Shake

This combination of the season's best berries with milk and frozen yogurt provides a lighter take on the regular milkshake that is just as delicious.

Also try: Espresso Soy Milk Shake, Blackberry-Mango Breakfast Shake

    Caffeinated

    Frozen Affogato Shake

The espresso granita here provides both a sort of sauce and your caffeine fix for the afternoon. Classic affogato flavor in the form of your favorite shake.

Also try: The Lebowski Shake, Mocha Malted Shake

    Boozy

    Vodka Grasshopper

This mint chocolate shake just screams summer fun. Blend it up and top with whipped cream and you are in for a good night. Just be sure the kids don't get their hands on this one.

Also try: Brandy Alexander Shake, Guinness Milkshake

    Unique

    Banana-Caramel Milkshake

Including a large banana means this is healthy too, right?

Also try: Coffee Avocado Milkshake, Honeydew Cucumber Shake
