Oyster Overload Throughout history, oysters have been a major part of foodie-fare. With everyone from the Ancient Greeks serving them to encourage drinking, to Abraham Lincoln throwing oyster-themed parties, the delicate mollusk has been a staple on our tables for hundreds of years.

There has long been a saying that oysters are best during months that end with 'r.' Honoring that tradition, oyster festivals are taking place all over the world through the months of September and October. At the most notable of which, the Clarenbridge and Galway Oyster Festivals in Ireland, tradition is to eat your oysters live with some Guinness and buttered soda bread.

But, if eating live oysters doesn't quite seem like your thing, we've put together some great and unique oyster-based dishes ranging in slime from safe Southwest Fried Oysters to much more extreme Bloody Mary Oyster Shooters.

    Thanks for this Kate! I love oysters but never know how to prepare them other then fried of raw. Since fall is suddenly upon us, I look forward to making the Stew.
