Ever find yourself baking rainbow cake with Martha Stewart on daytime television? Yeah, neither have we. Amazingly, that is not the case for 20-year-old college student, Kaitlin Flannery, author of Whisk Kid and baking extraordinaire.
Kaitlin started the site a little more than two years ago and now has zoomed to online-baking fame with great recipes like her Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream and Ganache, and her Strawberries, Rhubarb and Cream Crepe Cake. And we can't help but again point out her Super Epic Rainbow Cake - you know, that cake that landed her a spot on Ms. Stewart's show. A 20-year-old with an exploding blog and baking career, and an appearance baking live with Martha Stewart. Have we mentioned that we are just a wee bit jealous?
Each post begins with a personalized entry about the happenings in Kaitlin's life, relaxed and friendly, yet mature enough for a varied audience. She then presents the recipes, separating each cake into recipe segments and then explaining how to assemble everything. Her pictures are gorgeous, her stories fun, and her recipes simple and delicious. Warning: Click through with caution. Our time watching her blog has made it at times difficult to stay at work and resist temptation to run to the nearest cake shop. Okay, maybe we are more than a bit envious.

I am the oldest of five. Our birthdays are two in July, two in August, and the youngest in October. One summer our mother made a seven layer Rainbow cake for a birthday party for all five of us. This was in the late fifties and has been remembered many times.
