What We've Been Reading

Kitchen Riffs

Inspired by the sentimental feelings that abound this time of year, our What We’ve Been Reading post this week features Kitchen Riffs blog. Yes, we admit it might be corny, but the holiday season is the perfect time for reflecting on what you are grateful for, which for many is topped by food, family and friends.

It was a “personal food awakening” that prompted this blog full of reflection, great recipes and a whole host of cooking techniques (don’t miss the in-depth look at Chili Basics).  All of this stems from one source, growing up with a passion and love for food and the experiences gained when delicious recipes bring people together.
Kitchen Riffs is organized by month, making it incredibly easy to search for recipes according to their seasonal pertinence. For instance, right smack in your face on the homepage are incredibly enticing Pfeffernüsse cookies – the quintessential Christmas cookie just like Grandma used to make. And how about the Roast Sweet Potatoes? A great variation on a Thanksgiving staple.

We have definitely taken note of the ode to alcohol in Kitchen Riffs. As we can attest to here at What’s Cookin’, a good meal is best when accompanied by a great wine or spirit, and this blog makes that clear. We love the extensive background and recommendations for the annual Beaujolais Nouveau wine and The Corpse Reviver is perfect during holiday party season.

Kitchen Riffs is best when you have the time to truly poke around and explore the site. You will find beautiful photographs and plenty of recipes to help ring in the holiday season. Whether it’s the Red Pepper and Onion Frittata with Baking Powder Biscuits for holiday morning indulgence, or the mouthwatering Chocolate Drop Cookies for the big man in red (and you too), Kitchen Riffs is sure to strike a sentimental chord within you and make your taste buds sing with joy.

Enjoy and be sure to let us know your favorites below!
