What We've Been Reading

Smith & Ratliff

The promise of a blog dedicated to sharing experiences of a young newlywed couple to friends and family is not one which necessarily includes a high level of quality. To stumble across a blog making that promise and doing it well is a treat in itself, but to find one with high caliber writing and photos is something to get excited about. And that is why we bring you this week’s featured blog, Smith & Ratliff.

Written by two former Texans who met, married and currently live in the Big Apple, the blog is written to document their triumphs and tribulations around the city. Mixed into the list are cookbook reviews, dinner recipes, restaurant recommendations, cocktail preparation instructions and fun New York area stories and attractions. And if that wasn't enough, there is the incredible  Snow Dog post, adorably documenting a dog's fun day in powdery snow.
The blog is separated into Food, Drink, Living, New York, Style and Travel categories, so maneuvering between posts is more than easy. But be sure to leave yourself plenty of time, the posts and captivating style of writing can become a hard to pull yourself away from.

Of the recipe dedicated posts, the dishes range from easy dinners to more extensive full meals. Check out the Ravioli with Apples and Walnuts and Portobello Burgers with Roasted Tomatoes for some great dinner ideas. Or, for something a bit more meaty, try the Lamb Chops with Tomatoes and Olives.

After just a few quick clicks, you’ll be happy to follow Ryan and Laura through all of their city adventures. And in the mean time, hop over to this perfect weekend post for a delicious and easy breakfast in no time.

  • Thank you so much for the kind words! We are flattered. We work hard on the site, but most of all, we just have a lot of fun doing it. :)

(P.S. Just to clarify, we aren't yet married.)
