Culinary school is a choice many aspiring chefs battle with. Is a degree and learning techniques in a school kitchen more or less worthwhile than training and experience in a restaurant?
Author Aubrey of this week's What We've Been Reading blog decided on the culinary school route. A student at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, Aubrey documents her escapades in school and eating habits throughout her blog adorably named I Talk to Food.
Where did the name come from? While cooking, future-chef Aubrey has a tendency of talking to and about her food as if hosting a television show, in a British accent à la Julia Child, no less. If that isn't a reason to love this girl, I don't know what is.
On to the food. As a self-described health nut, Aubrey fills her blog primarily with healthier fair. Delicious yet good for you recipes for things like Eggs in Avocado and Coconut Israeli Couscous with Apricots grace every page of this beautiful blog. We just can't get enough of the Pumpkin Tortellini in Pumpkin Seed Pesto and Mini Feta Cheese, Onion and Fig Focaccia. Talk about perfect weekend meals.
The blog is perfectly sorted out into recipe posts, posts about great restaurants and posts about school. And if you're looking to work off what you've eaten, there's even a section dedicated to fun, new workouts to try. Yes, you got that right - a food blog that features both recipes and workouts. A perfect balance.
Though she is relatively new on the food blog scene, you would never guess from her gorgeous photographs and well-written recipes. Just take the Braised Lamb Shank Ragu with Fresh Mint post for example. Easy to follow and delicious to look at, you'll be writing down ingredients to start cooking before you've even gotten through the recipe!
