What's New: Cissé Trading Co

Your guide to socially responsible, professional grade brownie mix

The Internet is awesome. Want proof? With just a few clicks, and just a few bucks, you can get socially responsible baking and hot cocoa mixes, produced by a professional pastry chef, delivered right to your door.

The company: Cissé Trading Co. (pronounced see-say, tell your friends), founded by former Craft Pastry Chef Jennifer McCoy and career social justice advocate Diana Lovett.

The idea was to combine McCoy’s top shelf pastry skills with an emphasis on socially responsible sourcing. The result is a best of both words for bakers (and hot cocoa sippers). Not only does Cissé gets its cocoa from FUNDOPO, a Fair Trade cocoa farming cooperative in the Dominican Republic, you can actually trace the journey from farm to mix on the back of each box.

That means means you’re not just buying high quality, delicious (let's not forget convenient) mixes—Cissé proclaims its Milk Chocolate Chip Brownie mix “the best brownie mix you’ll ever bake,” and we’re going to test that, repeatedly. You’re also supporting a larger effort to create an equitable, botanically diverse, and economically sustainable model for chocolate production.  And that benefits everyone—farmers, pastry chefs, and, of course, chocolate lovers.

You can recite this to all your friends as you slice into, say, a rich Dark Chocolate Layer Cake or pour a second cup of Cissé’s Signature Semisweet Hot Cocoa. Or you can just give them treats first, and share the good news later.

Available in some Whole Foods (eastern region) and, thank you Internet, definitely available online.
