French Onion and White Wine Soup


  • 5 cup(s) water
  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced thin
  • 7 beef bouillon cubes
  • 2 clove(s) garlic, chopped fine
  • 8 slice(s) baguette, 1" thick, toasted (or French bread)
  • 2 cup(s) Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1 leek, sliced thin (white and light green areas)
  • + 3 more ingredients
    • ½ cup(s) white wine, adjust to taste
    • 1 teaspoon(s) Worcestershire sauce
    • salt and pepper to taste

Melt butter or margarine in a large skillet. Add onions, leeks and garlic. Stirring frequently, sauté 30-45 minutes over medium high heat until onions are caramelized and lightly golden brown. Reduce heat to simmer, add beef boullion, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings. Cook on low for 20-25 m...
