Soba with Marinated Beef and Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 (1-pound) flank steak
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
  • 10 ounce uncooked soba (buckwheat noodles) or vermicelli
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • + 7 more ingredients
    • 1 teaspoon whiskey (optional)
    • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
    • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, divided
    • ½ teaspoon low-sodium soy sauce
    • ½ cup (1-inch) sliced green onions
    • 1 teaspoon water
    • 4 plum tomatoes, quartered (about 1/2 pound)

Trim fat from steak, and cut steak diagonally across grain into thin slices. Combine the cornstarch, 1 teaspoon oil, water, whiskey, soy sauce, and salt in a large zip-top bag.
