Spicy Meatballs with Fragrant Tomato Sauce

  • 2/3 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 lb. ground beef (preferably 85% lean)
  • 2 Tbs. olive oil
  • + 4 more ingredients
    • 1/3 cup milk
    • 28-oz. can diced tomatoes, with their juices
    • 1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup)
    • ¼ tsp. cayenne

Combine the breadcrumbs and milk in a mixing bowl and let sit for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a heavy 10-inch skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add 1 tsp. of the cumin, the cinnamon, and 1/8 tsp. of the cayenne and cook for 30 seconds....
