Texas Chili Recipe

Ingredients

  • cold water
  • 6 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

    • 1 teaspoon oregano leaves, crushed
    • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
    • 8 to 10 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon salt
    • ¼ cup chili powder
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 6 cups water
    • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • ¼ cup chopped onion
    • 3 pounds lean beef, coarsely ground or cut in small cubes

In a 6-quart saucepan, sear beef with onion in vegetable oil until beef is no longer pink.
