Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons five-spice powder
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 pounds flank steak, trimmed

    • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
    • ¼ cup rice vinegar
    • 1 ½ cups low-sodium beef broth
    • ½ cup water
    • 8 (2 1/2-ounce) hoagie rolls
    • 1 cup chopped onion
    • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar

Combine first 9 ingredients in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, and bring to a boil. Add onion and beef; return to a boil.
