Green Beans with Mushrooms, Cream & Toasted Breadcrumbs

  • ½ cup heavy or whipping cream
  • 8 oz. white or cremini mushrooms, quartered
  • 1-½ cups homemade or low-salt canned chicken broth or water, or a combination
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 10 oz. fresh green beans, trimmed
  • ¾ tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 Tbs. unsalted butter
  • + 5 more ingredients
    • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
    • ¼ cup olive oil
    • 3 medium cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 small onion, finely diced (about ½ cup)
    • 1 cup coarse fresh breadcrumbs
