Spiced Beef with Onion and Allspice Gratin
Ingredients
- ¼ teaspoon crushed whole allspice
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Cooking spray
- 1 medium baking potato, peeled and cut into (1/8-inch-thick) slices (about 1/2 pound)
- 1 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
- 1 garlic clove, chopped

- 1 (1-pound) flank steak, trimmed

- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ¼ cup (1 ounce) grated fresh Parmesan cheese
- Beef:
- 1/3 cup dry breadcrumbs
- 4 cups chopped Vidalia or other sweet onion
- ½ cup (4 ounces) block-style fat-free cream cheese
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
- ½ teaspoon crushed whole allspice
- ½ cup reduced-fat sour cream
- ½ teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
To prepare the beef, combine first 5 ingredients, and rub evenly over beef.
