Chicken pot pie is a fairly consistent dish in which a whole meal of chicken and vegetables is packed in a buttery crust. The variations on the recipe, while abundant, generally result in relatively subtle differences in flavor and texture. For a simple and soul-warming dish, chicken pot pie is one of the more intense and richly flavored categories of chicken dishes.

Here, the concentrated flavors of a braised chicken dish are paired with a toasty crust in a rich, creamy base. The dish is made for a rich, buttery Chardonnay, but if you want a contrasting pairing, a red wine like a fine Beaujolais or fruity, young Rioja would also work well.
