Ingredients

  • 1 deep-fat thermometer
  • 3 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce such as Tabasco
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
  • 8 slices bacon
  • + 5 more ingredients
    • 3 cups buttermilk
    • 2 cups whole milk
    • 4 teaspoons all-purpose flour
    • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Toss chicken with buttermilk, onion, Tabasco, and 2 teaspoons salt. Marinate chicken, covered and chilled, at least 12 hours.
