Ingredients

  • 2 plum tomatoes, seeded and chopped (optional)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups fresh or thawed frozen butterbeans
  • ¾ cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 (32-oz.) container chicken broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup diced onion (1 medium onion)

    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon pepper
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • ½ teaspoon hot sauce
    • 3 thick-cut bacon slices, chopped
