  • 8 ounces mild sausage meat
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 large (1 1/2 lb.) head broccoli
  • 8 ounces cavatelli or other shell-shaped pasta
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Fill a large pot with salted water and bring to a boil over high heat. Add pasta and cook, stirring often, until al dente. Reserve 1 cup cooking water before draining; set aside.
