  • 4 medium Gala apples, cored and cut into (1/4-inch-thick) wedges
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Thyme sprigs (optional)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
  • 20 ounces small cipollini onions, peeled
  • + 3 more ingredients
    • 2 slices applewood-smoked bacon, chopped
    • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
    • 1/3 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth

1. Melt butter in a large, heavy skillet over high heat. Add apples to pan; cook 6 minutes or until edges are very brown, stirring frequently. Remove apples from pan; set aside.
