Ingredients

  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, peeled
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 medium yellow onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • + 3 more ingredients
    • 2 medium carrots, chopped
    • 1 pound split peas, rinsed
    • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Place the peas in a large pot and add enough cold water to cover. Bring to a boil. Cover, remove from heat, and set aside for 1 hour. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.
