Chicken with Mushrooms and Green Beans

  • ¾ pound green beans, trimmed
  • 1 3 1/2- to 4-pound chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 small navel orange, halved
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 10-ounce package button mushrooms, caps quartered
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons kosher salt
  • + 3 more ingredients
    • ½ teaspoon black pepper
    • ¾ teaspoon dried thyme
    • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped, plus 12 whole cloves, unpeeled
