Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ cup blanched slivered almonds
  • 12 ounces pitted dates
  • 3 pounds onions
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 10 ounces dried apricot
  • + 4 more ingredients
    • 1 pound pitted prunes
    • 2 4- to 4 1/2-pound chickens
    • 7 tablespoons olive oil
    • 3 tablespoons sugar

Heat 6 tablespoons olive oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and sauté until deep golden brown, about 30 minutes; sprinkle with salt and pepper.
