Backyard Barbecue Ribs with Spicy Cola Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • One 12-ounce can spicy cola
  • 1 teaspoon finely ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons ancho or New Mexican chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup cider vinegar

    • ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
    • 1 cup ketchup
    • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
    • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
    • 4 tablespoons (½ stick) unsalted butter
    • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • 1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
    • 1 ½ teaspoons coarsely ground black pepper
    • ½ tablespoon hot smoked Spanish paprika
    • 1 tablespoon kosher salt, preferably Morton's
    • 1 tablespoon molasses powder, optional
    • 2 tablespoons white sugar
    • ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
