1898 Tea Cakes
Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1 c butter (no substitutes), softened
- 2 c sugar
- 1 t soda
- 1 egg
- ½ c buttermilk
- 4 c flour
- + 11 more ingredients

- 2 t vanilla extract
- 1 t almond extract
- ½ t salt
- Icing:
- 3 c confectioners' sugar
- 6 T half and half
- 1 ½ t vanilla extract
- 1 ½ t almond extract
- Food colorings of your choice
- Decorations of your choice
- Paintbrushes
Preheat oven to 350F. Cream butter and sugar; add egg, almond and vanilla extracts and mix well. Dissolve soda in buttermilk; add salt to flour. Alternate adding buttermilk and flour to creamed mixture. Refrigerate for at least one hour before rolling out. Roll out on floured board until 1/8-inch...
