Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sliced almonds
  • a 2 ½ to 3-quart glass trifle or soufflé dish
  • ¼ teaspoon pure almond extract

    • 3 ounces almond paste
    • 3 tablespoons whole milk
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour

    • 2 (15- by 10-inch) 4-sided sheet pans
    • 6 large egg yolks
    • 3 tablespoons medium-dry Sherry
    • Vanilla custard
