Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour, or as needed
  • 2 teaspoons anise seeds
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • + 2 more ingredients
    • 1 quart water, divided
    • 2 (.25 ounce) envelopes active dry yeast
