Ingredients

  • ½ cup plus 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 recipe Apple Purée
  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 6 oz. (12 Tbs.) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1-¾ lb. apples (about 4 medium), peeled, cored, quartered, and cut in ¾-inch dice (to yield about 4 cups)
  • 4 cups ¾-inch pieces day-old bread, such as French or Italian, or day-old croissants
  • 2-½ tsp. ground cinnamon

    • ½ cup orange juice
