Ingredients

  • 1 pinch salt
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 8-ounce container crème frahe**
  • 1 ½ cups tart apples (such as Granny Smith)
  • 1 ¼ cups golden syrup*
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • + 9 more ingredients
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 tablespoon Calvados (apple brandy)
    • 1 tablespoon lemon peel
    • 1 tablespoon light (mild-flavored) molasses
    • 3 tablespoons ice water
    • 2 large eggs
    • 14 tablespoons fresh breadcrumbs
    • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
    • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter

Blend flour, sugar, and salt in processor 5 seconds. Add butter. Using on/off turns, cut in until very coarse meal forms. Add 3 tablespoons ice water.
