Applesauce Cake with Penuche Frosting

Ingredients

• ½ cup(s) brown sugar - packed
• ½ cup(s) shortening
• 2 cup(s) powdered sugar - sifted
• ¼ cup(s) milk
• PENUCHE FROSTING:
• 1 cup(s) brown sugar - packed
• CAKE:
• + 7 more ingredients
• • ½ cup(s) sugar
  • 1 cup(s) applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda - dissolved in 2 tablespoons of hot water
  • 1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon(s) allspice
  • ½ cup(s) butter
  • 1 ¾ cup(s) flour - sifted

CAKE: Place the shortening, brown sugar, white sugar, applesauce and soda water in a mixer and mix until well blended. Then add the flour, cinnamon and allspice. Mix well to combine. Pour into a 9x13 baking pan that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray. Bake in a preheated 350° F....
