Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Garnishes: fresh mint, fresh blackberries
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 8 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 4 ½ cups fresh or 1 (1-pound) package frozen blackberries
  • + 3 more ingredients
    • 1 ½ cups sugar
    • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 10 cup half-and-half

Combine first 3 ingredients in a large Dutch oven. Whisk in half-and-half. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, over medium-high heat. Slowly whisk about 4 cups of hot mixture into beaten egg.
