Ingredients

  • Powdered sugar or whipped cream (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 small butternut squash
  • + 7 more ingredients
    • 1 ½ cups packed light brown sugar
    • 2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour
    • ½ teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • ¾ teaspoon salt

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Cut squash in half lengthwise and remove seeds.
