Buttery Pigeon Pea Dal (Mitti Handi Dal) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup split yellow pigeon peas (
  • 2 jalapeños-1 halved and seeded, 1 minced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • Salt
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • + 7 more ingredients
    • 1 large garlic clove, minced
    • 1 ½ teaspoons minced fresh ginger
    • 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
    • Pinch of cayenne pepper
    • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
    • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
    • Steamed basmati rice and warm naan, for serving

In a medium saucepan, cover the pigeon peas with water and let soak for 30 minutes. Drain the pigeon peas well. Return the pigeon peas to the saucepan.
