  • 1½ cups light brown sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup salted peanuts
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 candy thermometer
  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
  • + 2 more ingredients
    • ¾ teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Heat oil with 3 kernels in a 3-quart heavy saucepan, covered, over moderate heat until 1 or 2 kernels pop.
