- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup plus 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 ¼ cups hot water
- 2 ¼ cups buttermilk

- 4 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 4 ½ cups sugar
- 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour

- Unsalted butter, for pans
