Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 1 ½ cups onion
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • fresh chives
  • 3 pounds plum tomatoes
  • 1 cup carrots
  • 1 pound fresh crabmeat
  • + 12 more ingredients
    • 6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
    • 1 ¾ cups fresh fennel bulb
    • 1 pound red bell peppers
    • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard seeds
    • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
    • 5 ¼ cups vegetable broth
    • ¼ cup fresh ginger
    • 2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
    • 6 garlic cloves
    • 2 cups celery
    • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
    • radishes

Toast all ingredients in heavy medium skillet over medium heat until spices darken slightly in color and start to pop, stirring occasionally, about 7 minutes. Cool in skillet.
