  • 1 ½ pints chocolate ice cream or peppermint stick ice cream
  • ¼ cup whipping cream
  • 2 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

    • 10 tablespoons sugar
    • unsalted butter
    • ½ cup red-and-white-striped hard peppermint candies
    • ¼ cup water
    • 2/3 cup powdered sugar
