Ingredients

  • ½ cup soft pitted prunes
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 ½ ounces fine-quality bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened or extra-bitter)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 8- by 3-inch ovenproof ring mold or a 6-cup-capacity bundt pan
  • stout crème anglaise
  • 2 large eggs

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • ½ cup stout such as Mackeson or Guinness
    • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
    • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • confectioners sugar
    • 1 cup dark brown sugar
