Ingredients

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup pitted prunes
  • 8 croissants
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter

    • 1 vanilla bean
    • 6 large eggs
    • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • ½ cup sugar
    • 3 cups whole milk
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt
    • ½ cup brandy
    • ½ cup coarsely chopped almonds
    • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
    • ½ cup golden brown sugar
    • 2 cups sour cream
    • 1 tablespoon grated lemon peel

Preheat oven to 300°F. Generously butter 8-cup pudding mold, metal bowl, or soufflé dish and sprinkle with sugar. Combine milk, butter, and 1/2 cup sugar in heavy medium pot.
