Coconut Pie Bars

Ingredients

• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
• 1 cup chopped pecans
• ½ cup butter or margarine, softened
• 1 ¾ cups firmly packed brown sugar, divided
• 2 eggs, beaten
• ½ teaspoon baking powder

Combine butter and 1/4 cup brown sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add 1 cup flour, and mix well. Press mixture evenly into a lightly greased 9- inch square baking pan.
