Conchas Blancas (White Shells)

Ingredients

• ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract or freshly ground cinnamon
• 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick), at room temperature
• Pinch fine salt
• ¼ teaspoon baking powder
• 1 cup powdered sugar
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• For the topping::

  • 1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups whole milk, at room temperature
