Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup butter or margarine
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 5 Rome apples, peeled and sliced
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries

    • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • ½ cup sliced blanched almonds
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided

Cook cranberries, 1 cup sugar, and maple syrup in a nonaluminum saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 8 minutes or until cranberries pop.
