Ingredients

  • lightly sweetened whipped cream
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

    • 1 ¾ cups fresh or frozen cranberries
    • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 well-seasoned 10-inch cast-iron skillet
    • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¾ cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Melt butter in skillet over moderate heat, then swirl to coat bottom and side of skillet and stir in brown sugar.
