Ingredients

  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • Colored sugars or other decorations for sprinkling (optional)
  • 1 egg white, lightly beaten
  • 8 oz. (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 oz. cream cheese (I use Philadelphia brand), softened at room temperature
  • + 1 more ingredients
    • 11-¼ ounces (2-½ cups) all-purpose flour, sifted

Heat the oven to 375°F. With a stand mixer (use the paddle attachment) or a hand mixer, beat the butter, cream cheese, and sugar in a large bowl on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes.
