Ingredients

  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup pecan pieces, toasted
