Fried Apple Fritters

Ingredients

• Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
• 2 Gala apples, peeled, cored, and cut into ¼-inch-thick rings
• Vegetable oil, for frying
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 1 large egg, room temperature
• 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
• 1 ½ teaspoons coarse salt
