Fried Green Tomatillos with Jalapeño Dipping Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup bacon drippings
  • 1 teaspoon grated lime rind
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 12 medium tomatillos, sliced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • ½ cup jalapeño pepper jelly
  • + 5 more ingredients
    • 2 tablespoons lime juice
    • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
    • 1 teaspoon pepper, divided
    • ½ cup milk
    • 1 cup cracker meal

Cook jelly and lime juice in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring often, until jelly melts. Remove from heat; stir in lime rind, and set aside.
