  • Water
  • 3 fresh bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 5 cloves garlic, whole
  • 1 lb. dried white navy beans, rinsed
  • 10 black peppercorns
  • + 2 more ingredients
    • 1 large sprig fresh rosemary
    • ¼ cup fruity-peppery extra-virgin olive oil

Tie the whole garlic cloves, bay leaves, peppercorns, and rosemary in cheesecloth and put them in a large pot along with the beans and salt.
