Ingredients

  • 3 oz. (6 Tbs.) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 13-½ oz. (3 cups) unbleached all-purpose flour; more for rolling
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves
  • ½ cup unsulfured molasses
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
  • + 10 more ingredients
    • 1 large egg, at room temperature
    • ¾ tsp. baking soda
    • ½ lb. (2 cups plus 2 Tbs.) confectioners' sugar
    • 1-½ tsp. baking powder
    • 2 tsp. ground ginger
    • Blue food coloring
    • 2-½ Tbs. meringue powder
    • ½ tsp. table salt
    • Edible silver dragées
    • ¼ tsp. freshly grated nutmeg

In a large bowl, whisk the flour, ginger, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves; set aside.
