Grilled Flank Steak with Sesame Sauce & Grilled Scallions

Ingredients

  • 1-½ lb. flank steak
  • 1-½ tsp. kosher salt
  • ½ tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbs. sesame seeds, toasted
  • ¼ cup plus 1 Tbs. soy sauce
  • 3 Tbs. rice vinegar
  • 1-½ Tbs. minced garlic
  • + 6 more ingredients
    • 2 Tbs. Asian sesame oil
    • 20 scallions (preferably thick ones), roots trimmed
    • ¼ cup minced fresh ginger
    • 1-½ Tbs. light or dark brown sugar
    • ¼ cup canola oil; more for the grill
    • 2 tsp. cornstarch

Season the flank steak with 1 tsp. of the salt and the pepper. Mix 1 Tbs. of the soy sauce, 1 Tbs. of the canola oil, 2 Tbs. of the ginger, and 1 Tbs. of the garlic in a large zip-top plastic bag.
