Harissa-Onion Dogs with Preserved-Lemon Relish

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 hot dog buns
  • ¾ cup (about) purchased hummus
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 6 all-beef hot dogs
  • 1 ½ tablespoons harissa sauce*
  • + 9 more ingredients
    • or other chile paste (such as sambal oelek)**
    • ½ cup water
    • 12 or 12x8- or x 9-inch lavash sheets
    • ¼ cup fresh cilantro
    • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
    • 1 ½ pounds onions
    • 2 lemons
    • 2 ½ tablespoons coarse sea salt
    • ¼ cup fresh mint

Bring first 3 ingredients to boil in heavy large skillet over medium heat. Cover and simmer until lemons are tender, about 12 minutes. Uncover; simmer until liquid thickens to syrup, about 8 minutes.
